FAQ- Oregano Oil

Oregano Oil

Is ReThink’s Oregano Oil 100% Pure?

Yes, it is. We wouldn’t settle for anything less! ReThinkOil was founded on the principals of Holistic Health and Natural Wellness, so purity is a top priority of ours.

Each harvest of oil is twice analyzed by a well-qualified 3rd party Chemist to ascertain purity before being sold (once in Turkey and once again in the US). No other oil company goes to these lengths to ensure purity.

*our 3rd party Chemists’ utilize GC-MS and GC-MSD testing, the gold standard for oil analysis.

100% pure, natural essential oils are non-standardized extractions of the volatile, aromatic compounds contained within the plant and nothing else.

For additional (non-biased) information on ascertaining the purity of essential oils, please refer to AromaWeb:

What is the difference between a standardized essential oil and a pure or natural essential oil?

Standardized essential oils have been altered from their natural state to maintain consistency and/or to selectively increase naturally occurring constituents, for instance carvacrol.

Standardizing can be achieved with high-heat distillation, adding in isolated constituents (like carvacrol) to the distilled oil and even through genetic engineering of the plant stem.

Regardless of the technique, the natural composition of the oil is altered and synergy is compromised, rendering the oil less effective than if it were in its natural state.

For instance, in the case of adding in isolated components at distillation, if the distilled oil would have naturally contained 80% carvacrol, yet is standardized to increase the content to 90%, then 10% of otherwise naturally occurring constituents are lost to accommodate for the unnatural increase in carvacrol, compromising synergy.

A pure, natural essential oil is an extraction of the volatile, aromatic compounds naturally contained within the plant. A variety of extraction methods and processes are used in the industry to extract the compounds, creating an essential oil product.

100% pure, natural essential oils are non-standardized extractions of the volatile, aromatic compounds contained within the plant and nothing else.

There is no need to standardize ReThinkOil’s 100% pure Oregano oil. From harvest to distillation, our supplier selects only the finest herb to pair up with their proprietary distillation process. This expert process creates a naturally balanced oil with a wide array of “anti” properties, exactly what Mother Nature intended it to be.

Why does ReThinkOil offer endemic minutiflorum, instead of the commonly sold vulgare?

Our Practitioner wanted to offer our clients a non-standardized, high-altitude grown wild oregano oil with a well balanced natural chemical component profile, suited for everyday and/or therapeutic use. The carvacrol content of minutiflorum is naturally high, eliminating the need for standardization. It is rare to find a non-standardized vulgare with such a profile.

Prior to making the decision to offer minutiflorum, our Practitioner personally reviewed hundreds of scientific research papers.Minutiflorum was the clear choice to offer our clientele, whether occasional or therapeutic users.

Choosing and using an oil wisely will produce the best outcome.

I read that vulgare is the best subspecies of Origanum. What is the difference between vulgare and this oil, Origanum minutiflorum?

The Origanum perennial is a member of the Lamiaceae family and has well over 50 species, subspecies. Species range from the common vulgare to the endemic species of minutiflorum and hypericifolium.

Each species and subspecies of Origanum are made up of similar organic compounds, providing the plant with varying degrees of powerful "anti" properties.

The antimicrobial properties of Origanum include antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial and antiparasitic compounds, although many more “anti” properties are known to exist within the plant and have also been scientifically studied.

Some Commonalities - Vulgareand Minutiflorum:

  • Members of the mint family (Lamiacase)

  • Species/subspecies of Origanum

  • Made up of many organic compounds that provide “anti” properties

  • Antimicrobial properties include: antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial and antiparasitic

Some Key Differences:

MINUTIFLORUM

Minutiflorum is “rare and grows only at altitudes above 1500m, on rocky soils, and on only two or three mountain massifs in southern Turkey”. 1)

Minutiflorumcan only be grown wild.

Minutiflorum only thrives at high-altitudes.

Minutiflorum has no subspecies of its own.

Our minutiflorum is non-standardized.

VULGARE

Vulgare hirtum, Greek or Turkish, is also known as O. heracleoticum, is a subspecies of the ordinary oregano or perennial marjoram (O. vulgare ssp. vulgare). 1)

Vulgare is grown wild and cultivated throughout the world, even in-home gardens.

Vulgare thrives in low altitudes.

Vulgare has many subspecies (ssp.).

Vulgare is oftentimes standardized.

Is ReThinkOil Oregano Oil Therapeutic Grade?

Because the US government does not recognize the term “Therapeutic Grade”, we do not use the term. However, this oil was selected specifically for the therapeutic user.

What is synergy?

The definition of synergy: The interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc.; synergism.

The power behind 100% pure Oregano oil is dependent on the synergistic combination of the naturally occurring constituents contained within the plant, working together as mother nature intended.

Can I use ReThinkOil Oregano every day?

Each person is unique, however in general, our pure, non-standardized oil is well tolerated and can be used daily by most individuals once diluted. Talk to your Practitioner about dosing for your specific health needs.

Do I need take an iron supplement when using oregano oil?

Oregano contains phenolic compounds (also found in coffee, tea, cocoa...), that can "bind" to iron. When phenolic compounds are consumed with a meal, the iron contained in the consumed meal may not be well absorbed.  Those who intend to dose during meals for long term may want to consider adding in a plant based iron supplement. *Consuming phenolic compounds away from meals (on an empty stomach) has not been shown to impair the absorption of iron, although those who consume phenols multiple times throughout the day may need to supplement.

How much oil can I use?

For beginners, we suggest starting with 1 drop per day in your preferred dilution medium and working up from there. Although dilution medium suggestions are included with the product, you may need to try several before finding one that suits your taste buds.

“Smart Dosing” tips are included with the product and should be considered as the drops are increased. These tips are designed to minimize potential die-off symptoms that can occur when antimicrobials are used (herxheimer reaction).

What is die-off (Jarisch-Herxheimer Reaction)?

Antimicrobial treatments designed to kill bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites have long been associated with the Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. When microorganisms die as a result of antimicrobial treatment, toxins are shed and eliminated via the detoxification organs. This process can cause temporary symptoms if overwhelmed.

Although most individuals will never experience herxing, those who do may notice temporary symptoms including chills and/or fever, rash, brain fog, fatigue, hypotension, tachycardia, hyperventilation, muscle pain, nausea and flushing. Symptoms typically last anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days and should gradually subside, not progressively worsen.

Drinking extra fluids and getting plenty of plant-based fiber in the diet are natural ways to reduce die-off symptoms. When using natural antimicrobials, such as oregano oil, dosing should be gradually increased to minimize and/or eliminate potential symptoms.
